Local News in Brief : Drug Crackdown May Shut Van Nuys Street

Share

Los Angeles City Councilman Ernani Bernardi Friday proposed closing off one end of Blythe Street in Van Nuys to further combat drug dealing on the block.

The closure was recommended by a police task force cracking down on drug dealers on the street. It will “deter drive-through narcotics sales and assist the Police Department in apprehending drug sellers and buyers” by making it more difficult for them to escape, Bernardi said. Police used a street closure to reduce drug trafficking in South Central Los Angeles.

Bernardi’s proposal calls for closing off Blythe Street at Willis Avenue. Residents would still be able to enter the street from Van Nuys Boulevard. The proposal was sent to the council’s Public Works Committee.
