Six youths from Pasadena escaped severe injury Thursday night when the car in which they were riding hurtled down a 350-foot embankment in Agoura Hills and ejected five of them, including a 4-year-old girl, the California Highway Patrol reported.

A drunk-driving charge is expected to be sought against the driver, a 17-year-old boy whose name was not disclosed, CHP Officer Mark Stone said.

The speed of the 1973 Chevrolet Vega was estimated to be at least 50 m.p.h. when it failed to make a left turn, skidded out of control and tumbled down the embankment on Kanan Road south of Triunfo Canyon Road about 11 p.m., Stone said.

The driver and five passengers all were treated at Westlake Community Hospital for minor cuts and bruises and released, a hospital spokeswoman said. The 4-year-old suffered a broken arm, she said.

“There’s no doubt that they were very lucky,” Stone said. “Anybody who is ejected out of a car can get killed.”

Only the name of the oldest victim, 19-year-old Anita Casillas, was disclosed. The other people in the car were the driver, the 4-year-old girl, two 15-year-old girls and a 17-year-old boy, who was the only one not thrown from the car, Stone said.
