Nofziger Takes Leave From Reagan PAC

From Associated Press

Longtime presidential adviser Lyn Nofziger has taken leave from his post as chairman of President Reagan’s political action committee after his indictment on ethics charges, a spokeswoman said Monday.

“It is obviously going to take some time for Lyn to focus legally right now,” said Wendy Borcherdt, the new acting chairman of the Santa Monica-based Citizens for the Republic.

Nofziger’s leave was effective July 20 and “he has not resigned,” she said.

The former White House political director pleaded innocent last week to charges that he violated federal ethics laws by using his connections to win a government contract for Wedtech Corp.

Nofziger is general chairman of the political action committee, which he helped to found after Reagan lost the 1976 Republican presidential nomination.
