Arrest warrants for a dozen convicted Long Beach area sex offenders have been issued in the first of a series of crackdowns on those who allegedly have failed to keep police notified of their whereabouts, authorities said. The penalty for non-compliance with a state law that requires sex offenders to inform police of their whereabouts is a 90-day jail sentence. “It doesn’t matter if they’ve been the best citizen in the county,” said Long Beach police Detective Norm Turley. “We really don’t want to issue warrants if we can help it. What we want is compliance (with the law),” Turley said, noting that the crackdown was the result of a yearlong operation that began after a state computerized list of 1,706 sex offenders living in Long Beach was compiled.
