Inglewood : School District Budget

Share

With approval of a final budget set for Aug. 26, the Inglewood Unified School District remains at least $500,000 short of budget cuts needed to offset the cost of a 10% employee salary increase and the loss of federal and state funds.

This week, board members voted to close a school for kindergartners and first-graders, reduce most 12- and 11-month managerial and clerical positions by a month, cut security, clerical and custodial positions and forbid overtime except in emergencies. The reductions add up to about $1.4 million of the $1.9 million in cuts that administrators have recommended.

Board President Lois Hill Hale voted against almost all of the measures, saying she needs further information on district finances.

Administrators said the district must cut at least $500,000 more from a projected $42-million general fund at an Aug. 24 budget review session.
