ON THE TOWN II: Yes, that was Bo Diddley--and his square guitar--making a guest appearance on the bandstand with the Bonedaddys last weekend at the Music Machine. In exuberant high gear, Diddley worked through a bunch of his classic hits and even shared the spotlight with his two lovely daughters (who were quite a pair themselves--one looked about 5-2, the other almost 6-2). . . . It was the 100th anniversary of Li’l Art’s Poker Party the other night at Al’s Bar (that’s 100 shows, not years). And the cameras were rolling, guaranteeing that fans will get to see much of the hoopla later this month in the Poker Party’s ever-fluctuating public access time-slot on several cable systems. Highlights from the cult cable-TV show’s centennial blast included a live performance by rockabilly up ‘n’ comers the Topa Twisters and psychedelic beatnik raps from Phast Phreddie, plus personal appearances by film/TV/pop stars George Wendt (armed with his own video camera), Fred Willard, Mary Woronov, Ray Campi, Dave Alvin, plus the usual assortment of writers and hip deadbeats. . . . Retro-popsters the Perines, whose perennial comeback-antics will be immortalized in an upcoming HBO special, are headlining at Carlos & Charlie’s on Friday night. They’ll also be there Aug. 11-12, opening for ex-”Late Show” hostess Joan Rivers.
