The entertainment industry’s effort to tone down sex scenes on the screen, believing it may stem the rising tide of AIDS, seems logically inconsistent with other industry attitudes on touchy subjects.

Given the increase in violent crime in recent years, the industry hasn’t toned down the mayhem of those action-adventure films much, have they?

A statistician friend once told me his research indicated that a heterosexual who doesn’t use drugs, does use condoms but exceeds the speed limit when driving L.A. freeways, has a 60 times greater chance of being killed in a freeway accident than he has of catching AIDS.

While that number may be open to debate, it should alert film makers to tone down those car-chase crash scenes, shouldn’t it?
