Police in Moscow are continuing to send home Crimean Tatars, who have been demonstrating in the Soviet capital over the past two weeks in an effort to be allowed to return to their ancestral homeland in the Black Sea peninsula, a dissident source said. He estimated that about 500 had already been returned to Central Asia and areas of southern Russia and the Ukraine where they are officially registered as residents. The Tatars were driven from the Crimea during World War II after dictator Josef Stalin accused them of collaborating with the invading German army. Tatars say tens of thousands of their people died during the resettlement. They were absolved of the collaboration charges in 1967.
