The Pomona Colts will play the Metropolitan League all-star team today in the 22nd Orange County Metropolitan All-Star Game at Anaheim Stadium at 4 p.m.

The Colts, in their first season in the summer amateur league, won the championship with a 16-4 record. The Cypress Bulldogs finished at 15-5.

Scott Pickler and Gordon Blakeley of Cypress will manage the all-star team, and Jim Ramos is the Colts’ manager.

Last season, Pickler led the Outdoor Dimension Chargers to the league title and a 7-5 victory over the all-star team.

“It’s good to be back in Anaheim Stadium,” Pickler said. “It’s an honor to be part of a game played there.”

The all-star team, made up of players from the other 10 teams in the league, will have strong pitching. Likely to start is either Tim MacNeil (6-0 with a 3.10 earned-run average) of the Santa Ana Cardinals or Wayne Helm (5-0, 2.25 ERA and 66 strikeouts) of the Bulldogs. Both are right-handers.

Tim Churchill of the Bulldogs, who hit .345 this summer, and Jason Rolish (.395) of the Fullerton Truckers are making their second consecutive appearances in the game.

Last season, Churchill was an all-star from the North Orange County Hornets and became the fifth player in the 21 all-star games to hit a home run. Rolish, who plays at Cal State Fullerton, played for the Cypress team last summer.

The all-stars have won 11 games and the champions 9, and there has been one tie.

Admission is free to those who attend the Angel game and to those who arrive at 4 p.m.
