U.S. Ships in Persian Gulf
A question: When the powers that be in Washington, D.C., decided to place Kuwaiti tankers under the protection of the American flag, didn’t they take into consideration that the sea lanes in the Persian Gulf would be mined? Other questions: Why was the Navy Department in possession of only three minesweepers and why weren’t they dispatched to the gulf before the decision was made to flag the tankers?
