Because of a new “withholding” tax levied on overseas artists performing in the United Kingdom, Madonna will have to pay the British government about $1.7 million in taxes on her coming tour of the U.K., the Hollywood Reporter reported. One tax expert predicted that the Material Girl’s total tax bill could amount to as much as $3.8 million. Madonna is scheduled to play four dates in Britain, including three sold-out concerts at Wembley Stadium, which are expected to net about $6.4 million.
