The movies and TV shows could make a big contribution to cutting down pollution and also to saving the nation’s gasoline supply by giving us a rest from all those big explosions. The car chases almost always end with a big boom and lots of flames and smoke. Someone tosses a cupful (well, a gallon) of fluid at a warehouse, a junkyard, an abandoned house, or whatever, and manages to get it lit miraculously . . . whoosh! It looks like lots of dynamite has been set off under a refinery storage tank of gasoline. The special effects boys keep trying for bigger and bigger booms. Enough, or rather, too much, already.
