Cool master Miles Davis made his first appearance ever in Hong Kong over the weekend and the capacity crowd was enthralled--although much of the audience didn’t understand why Davis keptturning his back to them, the performer’s trademark. Davis appeared as part of a three-day jazz festival that also featured keyboardist Herbie Hancock, drummer/pianist Jack DeJohnette’s Special Edition and the Wayne Shorter Group. It was the largest grouping of major jazz personalities ever seen in the British (soon to be Chinese) territory.
