Local News in Brief : Coalition Will Open Jewish High School
About 80 students in grades 7 through 12 are expected this September when doors open at the new Jewish Community High School in Van Nuys.
The school is the result of cooperation among more than a dozen local Reform and Conservative Jewish organizations.
Sponsors include the University of Judaism, Hebrew Union College, the Bureau of Jewish Education of the Jewish Federation Council of Los Angeles, six Jewish day schools and five congregations.
Classes will be held at the site of the former Golda Meir School at 15339 Saticoy St.
Alvin Mars, the University of Judaism’s vice president for academic affairs, said planners expect enrollment to reach several hundred in a few years.
