Fearless Cats to Save Felons From Rats

BOGOTA, Colombia —
The head of a jail in the country’s main port of Barranquilla is recruiting 50 cats to chase rats that are attacking the prison’s 52 inmates, the daily El Mundo reported Wednesday.
The newspaper said prisoners had to arm themselves with clubs or cling to cell bars to escape the biting rats at night.
Prison director Jesus Montano Olivo appealed to town residents to donate the cats, arguing that they would not cost the taxpayers money since the felines could feed on the rats.
