The Gap’s income jumped 56% to $13.1 million during the second quarter. Sales for the San Bruno, Calif.-based chain were up 32%. The company attributed the growth to sales at both existing and new stores. It said new Gap stores were reporting excellent results and Banana Republic stores continue to perform well. GapKids, it said, continues to experience strong customer acceptance. The company operated 760 stores as of Aug. 1.
