The leader of a recall movement against Arizona Gov. Evan Mecham said nearly half of the necessary 216,743 signatures have been collected to set the recall process in motion. Ed Buck said that 103,379 signatures were collected in the first 30 days of the drive. The recall movement was started after Mecham rescinded a holiday declared by former Gov. Bruce Babbitt in honor of slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
