Time marches on for Gidget. Once preoccupied with surfboards and beach party bon fires in a string of movies and a network TV series, Gidget has now grown up. In the syndicated TV series, “The New Gidget,” she’s a career woman running a travel agency, married to Moon Doggie and caring for a teen-age niece.

Airing Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. on KTLA Channel 5, “The New Gidget” stars Caryn Richman, Dean Butler, Sydney Penny and William Schallert (all seen on the cover). The show survived its freshman year and has been picked up for a second season that will get under way next month.

Though Gidget is no longer the teen-ager of yesteryear, there will be a bit of sun ‘n’ surf connected with the upcoming season’s opener. The episode is titled “Gilligidge Island.” It was taped in Hawaii and features as special guests Bob Denver as Gilligan and Alan Hale Jr. as the Skipper. Gidget and Gilligan were contemporaries on TV in the ‘60s.
