PerfectData reported that it lost $150,000, or 5 cents a share, in its first quarter ended June 30, compared to a loss of $289,000, or 9 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. Sales were $960,000, a 3% drop from a year ago.

PerfectData in Chatsworth is a maker of computer maintenance equipment and supplies sold under the name Careware. Last November, PerfectData instituted an austerity program to cut losses. Close to half of its 60 employees have been laid off and less expensive contracts with suppliers have been negotiated.

President Lee Mannheimer said PerfectData will unveil five new cleaning products that should boost sales.
