Director John Huston was released from Charleton Memorial Hospital today, ending a 22-day stay in the intensive care unit after being stricken with pneumonia, the hospital said.

Huston, 81, who has long suffered from emphysema and breathes with the almost constant aid of oxygen from a bottle, was taken to the facility while en route to Newport, R.I., for filming of a movie, “Mister North.” Huston co-wrote the script for the movie and had an acting role. That role was assumed by Robert Mitchum.
