As expected, “Crocodile Dundee” entered the Billboard magazine sales chart at No. 1--reflecting Paramount’s pre-sale of 1.8 million copies to retailers and distributors and generally high anticipation by consumers. As its Paramount stablemate--”Top Gun”--did recently, “Dundee” should rule the sales chart for at least the next two months. Next week it should also bounce “The Color Purple” out of the No. 1 spot on the rental chart. “Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors” debuted on the rental chart at No. 22 but should leap into the Top 10 next week. Both “The Bedroom Window” (No. 32) and “Critical Condition” (No. 36) also have Top 10 rental potential. Other sales charts: “Sleeping Beauty” is back on top of the kidvid chart; Bon Jovi’s “Breakout” heads the music cassette chart.

* “Three Amigos,” the Western satire starring Chevy Chase, Steve Martin and Martin Short, debuted on the rental chart at No. 8. It was less than entirely successful in the theaters, but it has the kind of talent lineup video renters look for. It’s likely to spend the next two months in the Top 10--maybe even the Top Five.
