The Army has stockpiled more than 1 million defective gas masks that could cause users to breathe cancer-causing chemical particles, the Baltimore Sun reported today.

The masks are being repaired before being issued to men and women in the service, an Army spokesman said. However, the Army denied that the chemical, a chromium compound, presented any cancer risk to soldiers who may have used the masks in the past.
