Drag racing star Don (Big Daddy) Garlits said he is considering retirement after emerging unhurt from a crash at more than 200 m.p.h. in the American Hot Rod Assn. world finals at Spokane Speedway at Spokane, Wash.
“I thought maybe I was going to get killed,” Garlits, 55, said. “That’s too fast to get flying like that. It’s a miracle I wasn’t hurt.”
Garlits was taking an early trial run in the second day of the finals when the front end of his top fuel dragster began to leave the ground about 1,000 feet from the start.
