If Piniella Is Fired, Will Lasorda Trade Dodger Blue for Yankee Pinstripes?
The rumors have started. It is being whispered that if George Steinbrenner fires Lou Piniella as the New York Yankees manager when the season ends, he will go after Dodger Manager Tom Lasorda for a dual front-office and field position.
Lasorda has said that he wants to become a general manager, but Fred Claire’s front-office role with the Dodgers has clouded Lasorda’s future. Lasorda has one year remaining on a three-year contract he received while being courted by Steinbrenner after the 1985 season.
