Free Spaying and Neutering Slated

Share

A three-month free spaying and neutering program for dogs and cats will begin at three Los Angeles city animal clinics Sept. 26, an aide to City Councilman Joel Wachs said Monday.

Wachs aide Mark Siegel said the project resulted from an ordinance sponsored by Wachs at the suggestion of the Cassidy Foundation, which is devoted to the adoption and preservation of stray animals.

During the program, spaying and neutering will be offered without cost at city clinics at 215 W. Ann St., 3612 11th Ave. and 13131 Sherman Way in North Hollywood. Charges at city clinics normally are $20 for female cats or dogs and $14 for males.

Siegel said Cassidy Foundation President Joy Goldschmidt and other private sector figures told the city they would mount an $800,000 advertising and promotion campaign if the city Department of Animal Regulation would offer the service free and set up a hot line providing directions to the clinics.

Sponsors of the project include Intralink Film Graphic Design, Patrick Media Group, Mutual Shelter Advertising, Winston Network, Gannett Outdoor Advertising, Warner Bros., 20th Century Fox and Metromedia Technology.

A free adopt-a-pet program will be conducted in conjunction with the spaying and neutering.
