KCET PLEDGES SET A RECORD

Viewers responded in record numbers to KCET’s fund-raising drive this month, phoning in pledges totaling $1,110,673, officials at the public-TV station reported Tuesday.

That was the largest pledge total ever for a PBS station in August, and was 27% higher than the amount pledged last year at Channel 28, a station spokesman said.

KCET officials attributed the record contributions to its steadily increasing viewership, which reached its highest levels ever in both daytime and prime time during July and apparently carried over during the nine-day pledge drive.

Meanwhile, officials at KOCE Channel 50 in Huntington Beach said that the PBS fund-raising campaign earned them $110,920 in pledges--an improvement of about 10% over the previous August.
