Toronto’s Rick Leach Is Missing

Outfielder Rick Leach was not with the Toronto Blue Jays Tuesday night for their game against the Seattle Mariners, and police were investigating his whereabouts.

Leach spoke with his wife, Angie, who was with him in Seattle, around 4:20 p.m. (PDT), about three hours before the Blue Jays were to play the Mariners. Leach did not take the team bus to the Kingdome and was not in the clubhouse.

Seattle police said an officer had been assigned to investigate, but no information was available.

Mike Mitchell, the Blue Jays’ traveling secretary, left the Kingdome and went back to the team hotel to look for Leach. After the game, Mitchell returned to the ballpark but had no comment on the situation.

The Blue Jays were scheduled to take a flight back to Toronto after the game. The team said Leach, 30, was not expected to be on the airplane, and Leach’s wife planned to remain in Seattle.
