A Vista woman was convicted of murdering her Marine sergeant husband, with special circumstances that could lead to a death sentence. A Superior Court jury took less than nine hours to find Laura Troiani, 26, guilty of first-degree murder, use of a weapon in murder, lying in wait, murder for financial gain and conspiracy in hiring five other Marines to kill her husband, Marine Staff Sgt. Carlo Troiani, in order to collect $95,000 in insurance.
