Mistrial in Panther-Killing Case

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. —
A mistrial was declared today in the trial of an Indian chief charged with killing an endangered Florida panther. The jury for the third time declared itself hopelessly deadlocked.
Federal prosecutors said they had not decided if they would retry Florida Seminole Chairman James E. Billie, who was accused of violating the U.S. Endangered Species Act. But a smiling Billie, 43, predicted that the federal government would bring him to trial again.
