The government’s chief labor mediator convened a second meeting between striking NBC employees and the network in Washington on Thursday, seeking compromises in an effort to end the nine-week strike. The closed-door session marked the second time this week that the two sides have discussed the terms sought by the 2,800 members of the National Assn. of Broadcast Employees and Technicians in its action against NBC. The Washington sessions were prompted by Cardinal John J. O’Connor, New York’s Catholic archbishop, who met for two hours last week with AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Thomas Donahue and NBC President Robert Wright.
