Nice Weather Finally Seems to Be Coming Into Season

Another pleasant weekend is in store for the San Diego area, with sunny skies and higher temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.

“San Diegans can expect temperatures to warm to almost seasonable levels, with some late night and early-morning low clouds through the weekend and into the middle of next week,” forecaster Wilbur Shigehara said.

San Diego’s weekend warming trend can be attributed to a weak high-pressure system building up over the West. “Not a strong high pressure, apparent in that we’re still a degree or two below seasonable levels,” Shigehara said.

Temperatures at Lindbergh Field still have not exceeded normal temperatures for August, with the exception of the first four days of the month, according to Shigehara. “This should be the warmest time of the year, with temperatures hitting the 77-degree mark. This weekend we should only hit around 75 degrees.”

Coolest August Since ’75

Early this week, temperatures in El Cajon reached 82 degrees--rather low for late August, Shigehara said.

“Usually, temperatures are around 90 degrees in El Cajon, but we did come close on Thursday as the low pressure system, which brings cooler temperatures, began dissipating,” he said.

So far, San Diegans have seen their coolest August since 1975, and last month was the coolest July since 1948.

“We can blame it all on the low-pressure system which has been a frequent visitor to San Diego since last September and caused June’s gloom and drizzles,” Shigehara said.

Surf Up to 3 Feet

Surf will be up to about 3 feet this weekend with occasional sets of 5 feet as a result of a very distant Southern Hemisphere storm, Shigehara said. Water temperatures should climb to about 68 degrees.

Coastal highs will range from 73 to 78 degrees with lows between 60 and 65 Saturday and Sunday.

Inland valley highs should range from 78 to 88 degrees with lows from 57 to 62 degrees through Sunday.

Mountain highs will be in the 78-to-85-degree range with lows from 47 to 57 degrees through the weekend, with a light chance of thunderstorms expected as the high pressure system builds.

Desert highs will range from 104 to 109 degrees with lows ranging from 75 to 80 degrees through the weekend.
