A Chatsworth man has been charged with stealing about $150,000 from Lion’s Gate Studio, where he was the controller.

Robert Dale Grey, 40, was charged Thursday with one count of grand theft and five counts of forgery. He is scheduled for arraignment in Van Nuys Municipal Court Sept. 14.

Grey is suspected of depositing company checks intended for vendors in his personal bank account, according to Los Angeles Police Lt. Duane Gansemer. Grey, who was authorized to sign company checks, changed the name of the vendors to his own, Gansemer said.

Grey forged a number of company checks from November, 1986, through June, according to the charges. The discrepancy was discovered during an audit while Grey was on vacation, Gansemer said. The controller was arrested when he returned from vacation Aug. 24.

Grey, who has worked for the West Los Angeles studio since February, 1984, was released on $1,000 bond.
