When I read Foote’s article about women in power positions representing women, I wondered at the implied sexism rampant through the article.

Is Foote aware of the obvious paradox that is set up in her every paragraph: If the women (Jane Fonda, Sally Fields, etc.) hire only women because they “feel more comfortable working with another woman,” then doesn’t it make sense that a man might be more comfortable working with another man?

Why is it sexism if a man does it, but a radical statement if a woman does it?

What I read into Foote’s article is that a person’s gender is a valid reason for discrimination in this most idiosyncratic and personal of industries. Is this the result that she intended?

Will Calendar write an article about the discrimination of women in power against men in the film industry? We could start the research for such an article by interviewing the same people Foote interviewed.
