Plans for County Fitness Academy

Share

I enjoyed the apt juxtaposition Aug. 16 on the Orange County Opinion page of your editorial “Prenatal Care: A Vital Need” and Jon Gilwee’s excellent Commentary, “Color the Health Care Crisis Poor,” against George Allen’s letter, “Fitness Academy in Laguna Hills.”

Allen’s “Run Around America” project might better be designed to bring the message of health crisis, not fitness, for the majority of Americans. Not just the poor but millions of middle-income Americans are rapidly approaching the point where available dollars will be inadequate to pay for health care.

Better George Allen redirect his runners to run to the nearest community clinic and donate dollars for fitness. In that way, the “U.S. Fitness Academy” might then become a socially significant addition to the landscape. Otherwise, I’m afraid it’s just another American runaround.
