Ditka Agrees to Coach Bears 3 More Seasons

Share

Mike Ditka has agreed to a three-year contract that will keep him as coach of the Chicago Bears through the 1990 season, the team announced Saturday.

Ditka, who coached the Bears to a victory in Super Bowl XX, said he wants to end his coaching career in Chicago. Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Ditka, who was already signed through this season, said the new pact will not make him the highest-paid coach in the National Football League but said it didn’t matter.

“The opportunities in Chicago are second to no opportunity in the United States, in New York or Los Angeles or anywhere,” said Ditka, who owns a thriving restaurant and bar in Chicago. “That has to be taken into consideration.”
