National Technical Gets Boost From Tax Benefits

National Technical Systems earned $338,000, or 8 cents a share, in the second quarter ended July 31, contrasted with a loss of $500,000, or 13 cents a share, a year earlier. The company’s profits were boosted by stronger sales and a gain from tax benefits. The company had a $163,000 gain from tax-loss carryforwards, which are accounting adjustments that allow a company to use prior losses to reduce taxable income.
The Calabasas company, which provides engineering services, said sales in the quarter increased 20% to $6.5 million.
For the six months, National Technical Systems earned $610,000, or 15 cents a share, contrasted with a loss of $652,000, or 17 cents a share, a year earlier. Sales rose 23% to $12.4 million.
