Vintage World War II photos of Marilyn Monroe, commissioned by Ronald Reagan when he was a captain in the Army Air Corps and producing training films, and the handwritten lyrics of the Beatles’ song “She Came In Through the Bathroom Window” were auctioned at Christie’s in London for $23,100 and $23,300, respectively. The 25 pre-stardom photos of Monroe, then an unknown Radiophone Corp. worker named Norma Jean Mortenson Dougherty (she was married to Jim Dougherty at the time), were taken by David Conover during a promotional campaign spotlighting women of the war industry. The Conover photos of Monroe, 10 of which were previously published in a book titled “Finding Monroe,” were sold with copyright, Christie’s said.
