Paul Newman’s effort in Westport, Conn., to build an Old West-style camp for children with life-threatening diseases has received a $1-million boost from the Anheuser-Busch Foundation, longtime sponsor of Newman’s car-racing pursuits. Officials of the camp fund called the gift “a major contribution in the national campaign to attract business and industry support.” Newman, in conjunction with the Yale-New Haven Hospital, announced in December plans to build and operate a summer camp on more than 300 acres in the rural, adjacent communities of Eastford and Ashford for children with life-threatening diseases.
