Downey : $49.4 Million School Budget
The Board of Education of the Downey Unified School District has approved a budget that anticipates spending $49.4 million during the 1987-88 school year.
The district started with a beginning balance of $7.4 million and expects $44.9 million in income during the year, Business Manager Peter Lippman said. Last year, the district spent $44.3 million.
The increase in expenditures will pay for an anticipated 2.54% salary increase for all employees, the increased cost of utilities, insurance and other rising operating expenses, Lippman said. “It’s essentially the same operating budget we had last year,” he said.
The budget includes $50,000 for a new counseling program for elementary students at two district schools, Gauldin and Imperial elementary schools.
The district projects it will finish the year with $2.9 million in reserve.
