AIDS-Exposed Brothers Get Donations
Three brothers exposed to the AIDS virus have received more than $25,000 in donations from across the country since a suspicious fire gutted their home last week, officials said.
“We really are a country of people who care,” said Jennifer Smith, a worker at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, which received $19,851 in checks ranging from $5 to $1,206 for the family of Louise and Clifford Ray.
Other checks were being sent to a relief fund set up by the Rays’ attorneys in Sarasota.
State fire investigators, meanwhile, said it would be today before they released results of an inquiry into what caused the blaze last Friday night that destroyed the Rays’ small wood frame home.
The Ray family remained in seclusion Thursday, still undecided about where to move to find a school and community in Florida willing to accept Ricky, 10; Robert, 9, and Randy, 8, all hemophiliacs who carry acquired immune deficiency syndrome antibodies.
