Reisbig’s 49ers Open With Montana State
Larry Reisbig will make his debut as football coach at Cal State Long Beach today when the 49ers play Montana State at 1 p.m. at Long Beach Veterans Stadium.
Reisbig, an assistant coach of the 49ers last season, succeeded Mike Sheppard, who quit to become coach at New Mexico last December, when it was uncertain if football would be continued at Long Beach because of financial problems. Enough money was subsequently raised to keep the sport at least through the 1987 season.
Junior quarterback Jeff Graham, who threw for 2,921 yards and 20 touchdowns last season, will try to lead the 49ers to their first opening victory since 1983.
