Reagan to Hold News Conference ‘at Some Point’
President Reagan will hold a news conference “at some point,” White House spokesman Marlin Fitzwater said today, without giving any idea how soon it would be.
Fitzwater was hit with a barrage of questions about Reagan’s lack of news conferences on his first day back at the podium after a three-week presidential vacation in California.
“He will hold a news conference at the right time and place,” Fitzwater said. “We just haven’t picked a date.”
P Reagan has averaged only about six news conferences a year, fewer than most of his predecessors. He held a news conference on March 19 after the Tower report on the Iran- contra scandal was issued, and one last June 11 in Venice.
