Anne Hirondelle’s rough-textured, splotchy gray stoneware cups and vessels are thick and heavy-looking, like fortresses for beverages. That doesn’t stop her from trying for some piquant effects, of which “Mime Diptych” comes across most successfully. Two teapots with strategically placed arc-shaped handles mimicking arms akimbo have a jaunty appeal.

Extroverted scrolls clambering over Philip Maberry’s big-footed white earthenware vessels are of a piece with the splashy colored, crazy quilt designs and big cartoonish faces sprinkled here and there. Noisy and vacuous, his works look as though they’d fit right in with trendy restaurant decor. (Garth Clark Gallery, 170 S. La Brea Ave., to Sept. 30.)
