Irvine : UCI Housing Director Given Additional Duties

James Craig, director of housing at UC Irvine since 1983, has been named assistant vice chancellor for student affairs, the university announced.

“He will retain his housing-director position and assume supervision of the Career Planning and Placement Center and the Counseling Center,” said Colleen Bentley-Adler, a university spokeswoman.

Craig has been at UCI since 1972, beginning as head resident at the Mesa Court housing complex. He also served as coordinator of residential life and as associate and acting director of housing and food services before becoming director of UCI housing four years ago.

Craig has a master’s degree in counseling psychology. In 1986, he was given the UCI Alumni Assn.’s Lauds and Laurels Distinguished Staff Award.
