A team of U.S. disaster experts began Friday to assess damage done by floods and mudslides that destroyed neighborhoods and villages in northern Venezuela, killing scores of people.

The four-man team is trying to determine how much aid Venezuela will need to recover from Sunday’s disaster, which left at least 30,000 people homeless and 100 missing by unofficial count.
