WFC ROUNDUP : Beverly Leads Pacific Past Sacramento

STOCKTON — Freshman quarterback Ron Beverly threw for one touchdown and ran for another Saturday to lead the University of the Pacific to a 31-7 victory over Cal State Sacramento.
Beverly completed 4 of 6 passes for 147 yards and rushed for another 43 yards. Pacific gained 334 yards in total offense, rushing for 197.
Southern Utah State 41, Western State 10--Junior running back Jim Andrus ran for two touchdowns and Herkey Marxen kicked field goals of 50 and 40 yards to lead Southern Utah State in a nonconference game at Cedar City, Utah.
Portland State 20, Montana 3--Linebacker Kurt Simmons returned a fumble 70 yards for a touchdown to lead Portland State (2-0).
Kevin Johnson, who carried six times for 73 yards, scored Portland State’s other touchdown on a 23-yard run in the first quarter to give the Vikings a 6-0 lead.
Kicker Mike Erickson booted a pair of field goals, for 49 yards in the second quarter and for 38 yards in the third quarter for Portland State.
