A marcher in the 1986 Gay Pride Parade was ordered Monday to stand trial for biting two police officers after a skirmish with fundamentalists protesting the parade.

Brian Barlow, 40, of San Francisco, is charged with felony battery on the police officers and interfering with an officer.

San Diego Municipal Judge Robert Stahl Jr. set arraignment for Sept. 28.

Reserve Officer George Ground and Police Officer Raymond Shay testified that Barlow bit them and drew blood after they tried to arrest him during the June 7, 1986, parade in Hillcrest.

Both officers said they have since received several blood tests for AIDS antibodies, but the results were not disclosed.

Prosecutors earlier lost a bid to get Barlow’s blood tested for AIDS antibodies after an appeals court overruled two judges who had ruled in favor of the testing. Prosecutors had hoped to upgrade the charges to include assault with a deadly weapon, the weapon being the AIDS virus.

Both officers have sued Barlow for $1 million in damages and Barlow has named them, five other officers and the City of San Diego in a countersuit.
