Police in El Paso are investigating misdemeanor charges of assault and resisting arrest against two University of Texas at El Paso senior basketball players stemming from a nightclub scuffle over the weekend.

Chris Sandle, 21, from Long Beach Poly High, is accused of striking a woman at about 1 a.m. Saturday, according to the police. A woman told authorities that Sandle struck her in the mouth, knocking a tooth out.

Also arrested was Chris Blocker, 22, who struggled with security officers at the club as they were about to take Sandle into custody.

Sandle said he was provoked. He said he got into an argument with a woman when he asked her to dance and the woman’s sister threw a beer bottle at him, striking him in the face. He said he struck both women in retaliation.

Sandle was charged with assault, and both Sandle and Blocker were charged with resisting arrest.
