China Executes 2 Who Robbed, Killed American on Train
Two Chinese men who murdered an American man aboard a train in June were executed Wednesday, the New China News Agency reported.
Cui Yuzhong, 23, and Dai Wenxin, 27, workers from Liaoning province in the northeast, were convicted Aug. 12 of robbing and murdering Ewald Cheer, 61, a Chinese language instructor from San Angelo, Tex.
They robbed Cheer of $180 in traveler’s checks, 81 cents in foreign exchange certificates and $5.40 in Chinese currency, the agency said, and also stole $420 in Chinese yuan from his traveling companion, Jiang Kefa, 46, a Chinese teacher.
The two men were riding in the same compartment as Cheer and Jiang on a train going from Beijing to Canton in southern China. They smashed a window and escaped from the train, but were captured within two days.
