The Papal Visit : Papal Digest : Secret Service Van Commits a Sin
In another incident at Immaculate Conception School on Wednesday, the Secret Service agents couldn’t get one of their cars to start.
The papal motorcade was pulling up to the front of the school, waiting for the Pope to finish addressing the students so he could be whisked to his next event, when one of the Secret Service vehicles suddenly went dead--a black van carrying several heavily armed agents whose place in the motorcade was directly behind the Popemobile.
An unmarked Los Angeles police car came to the rescue. Authorities opened the hoods on both vehicles, got out some jumper cables and hooked them up. A crowd gathered nearby cheered when the van started. Red-faced but completely businesslike, the agents hopped back into the van just in time for the Pope’s exit from the school.
